Turkey – Istanbul Bilgi University

Istanbul-Bilgi-1Istanbul Bilgi University is a young, comprehensive university with more than 16,000 students on three campuses in the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul – a metropolis that spans two continents and many centuries of rich cultural history.  The language of instruction at Bilgi is English, so TCNJ students have a wide variety of academic opportunities available to them across the curriculum.  TCNJ students will find Istanbul Bilgi University to look very much like an urban American campus, with students and faculty from all over the world and an awe-inspiring variety of cultural events within minutes of their student residences.  The CGE is excited to offer students an opportunity to spend a semester or a year at such a vibrant partner institution in Europe…and Asia!

Istanbul-Bilgi-2Istanbul-Bilgi-3Istanbul Bilgi University’s International Office may be found on the santralIstanbul campus in very modern accommodations.  With a friendly staff willing to assist students, the IO is a “one-stop shop” for international students who need assistance with courses, housing, and access to medical care, travel opportunities, and anything else related to the university. The IO will provide TCNJ students with an orientation to the university upon their arrival and support them as they begin classes and learn how the university works.

Istanbul-Bilgi-LogoTCNJ students may study a wide variety of subjects at Bilgi, including courses found in the following schools: Arts and Communication, Business, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science.  There is a special list of classes that international students on exchange may use to identify those classes they can take quickly and efficiently, while there is another online course finding tool that requires a bit more patience to negotiate.  Students will find many options for Liberal Learning requirements in the special list of classes.

Istanbul is a vibrant city – definitely a gateway to points east, but also a gateway to the Mediterranean region and points west.  Students in our Central Eurasian and Middle Eastern Studies programs will find interesting course offerings available at Bilgi to support their academic programs, and there are fantastic air connections between Istanbul and everyplace one could possible want to travel in eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East/North Africa region.  You may never want to leave Turkey, though, as there are fantastic opportunities to explore the remains of ancient Greek and Roman culture, the diverse cultural anthropology of the country, and the dynamic commercial culture in the region.

Students will live in student residences near the Istanbul Bilgi University campus.
