Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and Spain’s most impressive city of art and culture, is your laboratory for an intensive two-week course that features both an opportunity to appreciate the art and architecture of Barcelona and an assignment to create your own piece of art through an introduction to digital photography.
The program directors will lead students through La Rambla, the Gothic Quarter, Palau Guell (Gaudi’s mansion), and the Sagrada Familia cathedral, among other important cultural sites on the schedule. Students will also be engaging Catalonian culture, including attendance at an FC Barcelona soccer game at Camp Nou stadium, as part of the course assignment to capture Barcelona’s essence through digital photography.
Students will earn Liberal Learning credit in Literary, Visual and Peforming Arts, create a piece of art to remind them of their time in Spain for years to come, and take away a new understanding about how art expresses not only the ideas of the individual artist, but also an essential piece of a nation’s identity.
2014 Program Cost – approximately $4,000 (including TCNJ tuition and fees, all land expenses in Spain except meals and incidental expenses). Students will need to purchase meals on site as well as an airline ticket to be arranged through TCNJ’s travel agent.
