TCNJ Exchange with the University of Frankfurt
TCNJ’s oldest exchange is with the University of Frankfurt in Germany. The Goethe-Universitaet Frankfurt (named after one of the most prominent German authors in history) enrolls more than 38,000 students in over 150 programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level. There are more than 4,000 international students at the university, and accordingly there are people and facilities dedicated to welcoming international students and providing for their needs. Frankfurt am Main’s geographical position in the heart of Germany, coupled by the city’s importance as a center of European finance and commerce, allows the university to play the role of a very dynamic host for a study abroad semester.
German may be the main language of instruction in Frankfurt, but there are dozens of courses that may be taken in English. Below we have a guide for applying to Frankfurt for a study abroad semester. Students in most TCNJ majors may find something that works for their degree programs at Frankfurt. Students who do speak German will have more courses available to them.
The German university calendar is different from that of TCNJ. The first semester starts in October and ends in February, and the second starts in April and ends in July. Frankfurt sends TCNJ students in the fall semester, and TCNJ sends Frankfurt students in the spring. TCNJ students may take an intensive German class in March, before the beginning of classes in April.
The TCNJ-Frankfurt exchange allows TCNJ students to pay their normal TCNJ tuition in order to study abroad. All scholarships and financial aid awards will be honored. Students will pay for their room and board in Frankfurt, and of course students will need to pay for an airline ticket and incidental expenses.
