Financing Study Abroad

Study abroad is a great academic opportunity, but it isn’t free.  Many students may not even try to study abroad because they are afraid of the price tag.  If students invest a little bit of time researching various programs aimed at helping them (and their parents) pay the bills, they may be rewarded – grants and scholarships are available.

These websites should help you learn more about how Financial Aid works for Study Abroad and lead you to new resources for study abroad scholarships:

In most cases, financial aid (loans, grants & scholarships) can be applied to the cost of the study abroad program up to the cost of the in-state attendance at TCNJ. Exclusions may apply depending on the restrictions of the specific loan, grant or scholarship.

If you receive ANY type of financial aid, including loans, grants or scholarships from Federal, State, Private Lenders, or TCNJ, you must contact the Financial Aid Office to discuss your award package and limitations.

To find your financial aid or scholarship award amount, sponsor and all other information:

Log onto myTCNJ and log into PAWS. Under “Student Center” you will see a category for “Finances”. Here you can click on a link titled “Financial Aid”, which lists everything from your Financial Aid summary to your Award History by year and cost of attendance.

  • For any questions about PAWS, contact Records & Registration at 609.771.2141 or in person in Green Hall 112.

IF YOU ARE RECEIVING FINANCIAL AID (LOANS, GRANTS OR SCHOLARSHIPS): You should carefully compare the program cost and estimated expenses with you financial aid package; this information can be found in your Program Cost Sheet (which can be obtained from Green Hall 111 or online)

IF YOU THINK YOU NEED ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL AID: Make an appointment with the TCNJ Financial Assistance Office

IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID BUT WANT TO APPLY: Make an appointment with the TCNJ Financial Assistance Office

IF YOU RECEIVE ADEQUATE FINANCIAL AID: It is not necessary for you to meet with the financial aid officer

To Check on the restrictions of your SCHOLARSHIP, if any, please contact Joan Pageau at 609.771.3142 or at pageauj@tcnj.edu.
