Petition Process for Program Approval
While TCNJ faculty have approved many study abroad programs for our students, we have students every year who proposed to participate in other reputable study abroad programs. Students may petition the International Education Program Council for program approval using the following procedures:
1) Students should contact the director of the Center for Global Engagement and express their intent to study abroad in a given location.
2) Students should prepare the following pieces of the TCNJ Study Abroad Application
a) The essay, with the inclusion of an extra paragraph explaining why the proposed study abroad program addresses the students’ academic needs (and not one of the approved study abroad programs from our list)
b) Two TCNJ faculty references that speak to your fitness for study abroad and support the academic objectives of the proposed program
c) An official TCNJ transcript (sent to Green Hall 111)
3) Students should also provide information about the proposed program (a website URL is sufficient)
All of these materials should be submitted to the director of the Center for Global Engagement by the following deadlines:
For Summer, Fall, and academic year study abroad programs – January 25
For Spring study abroad programs – September 5
(If these deadlines have passed, please come to the Center for Global Engagement for help. We may be able to assist you.)
The International Education Program Council will review these petitions and provide recommendations for the director of the Center for Global Engagement during the first week of February (for Summer/Fall/Academic Year programs) and the third week of September (for Spring programs).
